Demystifying Common Myths About Lab Created Diamonds

We all are aware of how rapidly Lab Created Diamonds are chasing the number one place in the diamond market and we are not surprised. People are attracted to them because of their low price point and durability. But, at the same time, we can’t say that everyone is aware of these diamonds. They are still kind of new in the market and their reach is limited. This is the reason for some common myths about these diamonds. Hence, to clear up the confusion that is caused by them, we have presented some of the myths which aren’t true. Read on as we demystify some of them!

  1. They are fake

Well, the only difference between lab-grown and natural diamonds is that the former are created in a laboratory. They are totally real and hold value. Also, they possess the same qualities as natural diamonds like durability, chemical properties, and optical properties.

  1. They aren’t strong as natural diamonds

This is completely untrue. Both of these diamonds rank at 10 out of 10 on a Mohs scale of hardness. The reason being that they have the same chemical and physical properties.

  1. They are always flawless

How we wish this myth was true. But, it isn’t. However, a scientist can control the environment in which the diamond is made but unfortunately cannot control the diamond creation process. On the other hand, they contain fewer flaws when compared to natural diamonds.

  1. They are always cheap

We would possibly call this a stretch. We agree that these diamonds are up to 25 to 30% cheaper than natural diamonds. But, calling them “cheap” is not so ideal. No doubt, they are an affordable option at the end of the day.

  1. They are graded differently

We can call this myth half-true. It is unlikely of any diamond company to grade a diamond differently but GIA is an exception. The Gemological Institute Of America has more loose grades for the clarity and color section. For instance, instead of receiving an H grade, a lab-grown diamond will get a colorless grade at GIA.
